OGAudit Web3 Research: @SiaFoundation $SC - Delisted by OKX Over a Wallet Upgrade, Still Rebuilding a Decade Later
Sia’s original 2014 whitepaper proposed decentralized storage secured by cryptographic contracts, hosts agree to store a client’s file, periodically submit proof they still have it and get penalized automatically if they miss a proof, all enforced by a Bitcoin derived blockchain rather than any centralized authority:
- The network runs a genuinely two token system, SC handles payments between renters and hosts, while a separate token called Siafunds (SF) entitles holders to 3.9% of every storage contract’s value, originally designed to fund Sia’s parent company without a traditional pre-mine.
- The V2 upgrade finalized in December 2025 split Sia’s software into three independently upgradeable applications, renterd for renters, hostd for storage providers, walletd for transactions and replaced the old TCP based networking with QUIC, aiming for faster transfers and fewer dropped connections and it also fixed a legacy difficulty adjustment bug from the original design.
- Files are split into 30 encrypted segments distributed across different hosts for redundancy, using erasure coding so a file remains recoverable even if a meaningful portion of hosts go offline, an architecture that lets Sia offer storage at prices set by open host competition rather than a single provider’s rate card.
Is a genuine decade plus technical rebuild, a modular V2 architecture, a working proof of storage system and open host competition on price, enough to matter if a major exchange has already delisted the token over compliance friction with that very upgrade or does an OKX exit and a token trading 99% below its 2018 high suggest Sia’s real world adoption still lags its engineering?
