The tweet traces the evolution of the crypto airdrop concept from Auroracoin's free distribution to its current perception as exit liquidity.

The first recorded crypto airdrop looked nothing like what people call airdrops today.

Back then, “airdrop” meant free money.

Today, many people hear “airdrop” and think:

- exit liquidity
- endless farming
- crime-pump
- not eligible
- $0.5 reward

The word stayed, but the behavior changed.

What started as a monetary experiment became a rewards mechanism.

Then it became a profession.

Now, in many cases, it is exit liquidity.

Interesting how one idea evolved into an entire subculture.

Almost nobody knows what the first recorded crypto airdrop was.

In 2014, Auroracoin launched what is widely regarded as the first recorded crypto airdrop.

The project allocated 50% of supply for a national distribution in Iceland.

Around 330,000 citizens were eligible to claim 31.8 AUR each.

The goal was simple:
put digital currency directly in people’s hands.

That was one of the earliest documented uses of “airdrop” in crypto.

Interesting where this all started.
