Pair trading remains one of the more underutilized strategies in crypto. Your exposure becomes the spread between two assets rather than the direction of the market. In one case study our analyst examined, adding the short leg took the Sharpe from 0.35 to 1.45. Max drawdown dropped from 64% to 45%. Volatility declined by over 20%. The pair sat at all time highs while the long leg alone was down 40% from its peak. Pair trading allows you to express a relative view without taking on full directional exposure. You can profit while both assets decline, as long as your outperformance thesis holds. The wider the gap between winners and losers in crypto, the more valuable this approach becomes.

Weekly Trade Recap #3 $HYPE I entered a long after $HYPE swept the low inside support, followed by a 1H structure break. I TP'd 50% at 2R and the rest at 3R. Great trade. https://t.co/TxKID1wI7V

Worst ways to kill your crypto project - launching at $1B+ valuation with no users - zero incentives hoping for "organic growth" - rewarding people just for showing up, not for real usage - founder ego over market psychology - blaming "mercenary users" for your failure Best ways to build a successful crypto project - launch at a fair valuation so we make money together - good product with PMF (but understand: no one tests apps for free) - reward actual usage and risk-taking with tokens - make early users investors in what they're building with you - accept reality: crypto users want financial upside or they're gone Study projects like Hyperliquid that work, not dead ones that fought against human nature.

The directional trader with the correct fundamental view could still lose money. Consider a trader who is long HYPE and believes it will outperform SOL. In a bull market, HYPE could rise 50% while SOL gains 30%,and the directional trader wins. But in a bear market, HYPE might fall 40% while SOL drops 55%. The thesis was right but the position is underwater. The same pattern holds in capitulation events. The directional trader loses despite being correct about relative performance. The pair trader fares better in these scenarios because the exposure is to the spread rather than the absolute price. In a capitulation where both assets drop 60-70%, the directional trader faces a significant drawdown. The pair trader is down less and may even profit if the spread held.

Pair trading can more effectively capture relative alpha returns, outperforming single-direction trades, and provide better risk-adjusted returns.

"HYPE will go up" Most traders on CT have the same conviction structure: "I think A outperforms B." But almost nobody actually trades it that way. They take the naked long on A, eat 104% annualized vol, get stopped out on a wick that had nothing to do with their thesis, and blame timing or excess leverage (the leverage part might be true). The structure of their bet was their problem. The value add from pair trading has become increasingly obvious to me over the last few months as crypto has traded lower. For fun, I've spent the last few days building out the case for pair trading in crypto, using HYPE/SOL as the case study because it's a trade half of CT has had on in some form over the past year. The results honestly surprised me. Same thesis, same conviction, just adding a short leg on SOL against the HYPE long, and the Sharpe goes from 0.35 to 1.45, and your trade is ATH right now while $HYPE is down ~40% off its ATH. The pair is sitting at its all-time high today. Neither HYPE nor SOL are. If y

Hype EVM Tracking Tool One of my favorite tools lately is HypeStats. It lets you track everything in one place: - Full wallet overview (balances, NFTs, HYPE stake) - DeFi positions, yields & APRs - Points per protocol (Valantis, Felix, etc.) - Airdrops tab with FDV-based estimates - Airdrop calculator to simulate scenarios Still missing some protocols like Project X, but great for tracking points & modeling airdrops Huge thanks to @yieldyumi for building this 🙌
