Kaspa (KAS)

Kaspa has a fascinating opportunity that I don’t think gets enough attention.

Historically, the strongest forms of money first had value as goods before they became money.

Examples include:
• Gold, silver, and copper
• Salt
• Grain
• Tobacco
• Cattle

People valued these goods for what they were before they ever served as money. Their monetary role emerged from an already established demand.

By contrast, many weaker forms of money had little or no meaningful non-monetary utility.

Examples include:
• Cowrie shells
• Rai stones
• Glass beads
• Modern fiat currencies

Their value depended primarily on collective acceptance rather than direct utility.

This raises an interesting question 🤔

Bitcoin was designed to be money from day one. Its value proposition comes from scarcity, decentralization, security, and network effects—not from providing a separate utility like a commodity.

Kaspa's founder just laid out why crypto's original promise stalled, and what he thinks fixes it.

Last year at Permissionless IV, Joe Cutler (previously of CoinMe) argued that Blockchain set out to rebalance the aggregation of wealth and power, and he doesn't see that happening as institutions arrive.

@hashdag, in a sponsored CoinDesk piece, identifies a different gap. He argues that individual sovereignty is already solved. But group coordination isn't. This is where the process "usually collapses back into old forms: centralized organizations, trusted intermediaries."

Staghunt's answer is a coordination terminal. Commitments that fire only when enough people commit, so nobody has to move first alone. It settles on kaspa:native, and Sompolinsky's argument for why is that PoW samples the honest majority in real time.

Cutler says the rebalancing of wealth and power never happened.

Sompolinsky says individual sovereignty was never the missing piece. Coordination is.
