Here’s the TLDR: ✅ Incident overview: → A malicious actor executed a highly sophisticated attack → Using durable nonces to pre-sign transactions → And rapidly seize control of Drift’s Security Council administrative powers. ✅ Root cause: → Not a bug in Drift’s smart contracts or programs → No seed phrases were compromised → Instead, it involved unauthorized/misrepresented transaction approvals obtained earlier → Likely via social engineering + durable nonce mechanisms. ✅ What the attacker did: → Pre-positioned access using multiple durable nonce accounts weeks in advance. → Secured 2/5 multisig approvals. → Executed a malicious admin transfer within minutes. → Introduced a fake asset and removed all withdrawal limits. ✅ Impact: → Approximately $280M was withdrawn. → All borrow/lend deposits, vault deposits, and trading funds are affected. ✅Immediate response: → All remaining protocol functions frozen. → Compromised wallet removed from the multisig → Multisig has been updated.

    Earlier today, a malicious actor gained unauthorized access to Drift Protocol through a novel attack involving durable nonces, resulting in a rapid takeover of Drift’s Security Council administrative powers. This was a highly sophisticated operation that appears to have involved multi-week preparation and staged execution, including the use of durable nonce accounts to pre-sign transactions that delayed execution.

    🚨BREAKING: Drift Protocol just got drained for over $200 million Solana's largest perps DEX. Gone in one transaction batch. The attacker didn't find a smart contract bug. They didn't exploit a flash loan. They walked in with the keys. On-chain data shows a single account initiating massive outbound transfers. SOL, JitoSOL, WETH, wrapped BTC, stablecoins in USD, EUR, and JPY. Even FARTCOIN. They took the FARTCOIN. A blockchain security researcher confirmed what everyone suspected: a private key compromise.     Loopscale has no direct exposure to the ongoing situation with Drift protocol and funds in the majority of Loopscale products, including the USDC Genesis and USDC OnRe Vaults, are safe. A small share of the SOL Genesis Vault deposits (~$170K) is allocated to MarginFi, a fraction of which may have indirect exposure through Project0 borrowers collateralized by Drift positions. Should any losses materialize, Loopscale will make affected users whole. We take the technical and operational security of our infrastructure seriously. Our thoughts are with the Drift team and all users affected.

    I feel sorry for @DriftProtocol users. Every protocol should review opsec. Don’t make it about solana or ethereum or Hyperliquid. Dont grave dance. This was one vulnerability there might be another. Review everything, especially simple things
