Beginner's Guide to Creating a Seed Phrase Wallet

Published on 2026-05-28 00:00

I. What is a Seed Phrase Wallet?

A seed phrase wallet is a decentralized cryptocurrency wallet. Unlike an exchange account, its core is a Seed Phrase — a sequence of 12 or 24 English words that serves as the sole credential for accessing your wallet.

Key Characteristics:

  • Fully self-custodial — no reliance on any platform
  • Your seed phrase is your identity; whoever holds it has complete control over the wallet
  • If the seed phrase is lost, assets are permanently unrecoverable
  • Anyone who obtains your seed phrase can transfer all your assets instantly

II. Steps to Create a Seed Phrase Wallet

Step 1: Access the Wallet

  • Open the App and switch to "Wallet" mode via the top navigation
  • First-time users will see the "Welcome to Web3" page
  • Read the Terms of Service and Privacy Notice, then tap "Create Wallet."

Step 2: Back Up Your Wallet (Critical!)

After creation, the app will navigate to the "Back Up Your Wallet" page, offering two backup options:

① Cloud Backup

  • Tap "Cloud Backup"
  • Set a cloud backup password of at least 8 characters
  • Re-enter the password to confirm, then tap "Confirm."
  • Your seed phrase will be encrypted and uploaded to the cloud

② Manual Backup

  • Tap "Manual Backup"
  • A security warning will appear, reminding you that:
    • Whoever holds the seed phrase controls the wallet
    • Ensure no cameras or screen recording are active nearby
    • Do not screenshot or copy-paste the seed phrase
  • After reading, tap "Confirm" to proceed to the seed phrase display page
  • Tap the hidden area to reveal your seed phrase, making sure no one is watching
  • Handwrite the seed phrase on paper in the exact sequence shown, and store it securely
  • Tap "Confirm" to complete the backup

Step 4: Import an Existing Wallet (Optional)

If you already have a wallet, you can tap "I Already Have a Wallet" on the home screen or add a wallet via Wallet Management. The following three import methods are supported:

  • Restore BitMart-Linked Wallet: Restores a wallet that has been migrated from a BitMart Smart Wallet (custodial wallet) to a private key wallet
  • Seed Phrase or Private Key: Import a wallet by manually entering your seed phrase or private key
  • Cloud Backup: Recovers your wallet using an encrypted backup stored in iCloud or Google Drive
