Bitcoin whales keep buying.
While many sold or hesitated during the pullback from over $80,000 to below $60,000, the opposite happened with the largest market participants.
Wallets with 1,000 to 10,000 BTC increased their holdings in this phase from about 3.01 million to now 3.107 million BTC. That's almost 100,000 BTC that were additionally accumulated during the weakness phase.
Of course this is no guarantee that the floor is already set. Whales can also be wrong. Nevertheless the on-chain metric clearly shows who used the recent sell-off to build positions instead of panicking.
Exactly such phases are often exciting on-chain. While sentiment is at its worst, large amounts of Bitcoin shift from weak to strong hands. Whether this will again be the starting gun for a sustainable recovery remains to be seen. The whales’ accumulation at least speaks a clear language.
Bitcoin (BTC) is a digital asset and a payment system invented by Satoshi Nakamoto who published a related paper in 2008 and released it as open-source software in 2009. The system featured as peer-to-peer; users can transact directly without an intermediary. Transactions are verified by network nodes and recorded in a public distributed ledger called the blockchain. The ledger uses bitcoin as its unit of account. The system works without a central repository or single administrator, which has led the U.S. Treasury to categorize bitcoin as a decentralized virtual currency. Bitcoin is often called the first cryptocurrency, although prior systems existed. Bitcoin is more correctly described as the first decentralized digital currency. It is the largest of its kind in terms of total market value by now.
